RoHS Portable Air Conditioner Compliance

RoHS, also known as the lead-free directive, stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. As a European Union initiative, all products in the EU market must pass RoHS standards after July 1, 2006.

The goal of RoHS is to restrict the amount of certain toxins in electronic and electrical equipment. These hazardous materials currently include lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBBs (polybrominated biphenyls) and PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers). This restriction lessens the harmful impact these toxins can have on the environment and allows for the safer disposal and recycling of electronics and electrical equipment.

The disposal and recycling of discarded consumer electronics and electrical equipment is in theory beneficial to the environment. However, much of the recycling is done improperly and toxins released in the process harm both people and the environment. Furthermore, materials that are reused from these recycling practices oftentimes retain harmful toxins such as lead and cadmium. These materials come back full circle and are reused in new consumer electronic or electrical equipment goods.

Although the US has not currently required that consumer electronics and electrical equipment comply with RoHS standards, we at Living Direct, Inc. believe in providing the best possible products and services to our customers. This means going above and beyond what is required and surpassing expectations. We strive to give our customers the best products in the marketplace and many of our products pass RoHS standards as well as numerous other standards.
