What is Real Flame gel fuel made from?

The primary ingredient in Real Flame Gel Fuel is Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, which is both non-toxic and clean burning. No carbon monoxide, soot or ash is produced and the Isopropyl alcohol produces a thick, red, orange and yellow flame. There is also a safe thickener added to each can of gel fuel to create its gelled consistency and improve burn time.

How long will Real Flame gel fuel cans burn?

Real Flame gel fuel cans are designed to burn between 2.5 and 3 hours. It is important to optimally shake the can of fuel in order to ensure an even and full duration burn. Real Flame gel fuel is also optimal because it can be easily extinguished and relit, unlike traditional sources of flame.

Is Real Flame gel fuel safe to burn indoors?

Real Flame gel fuel is completely non-toxic and made for both indoor and outdoor use. It has been independently tested by multiple laboratories and proven to be safe and free of soot or ash.

Can I use Sterno or other brands of gel fuel in my Real Flame unit?

Although similar in concept, Sterno is composed of methyl alcohol as opposed to isopropyl, which creates heavy amounts of carbon monoxide and thus is not safe to burn in large quantities. We do not recommend using Sterno, homemade solutions or other brands of gel fuel with Real Flame units since these have not been rigorously tested like Real Flame brand gel fuel.

What is the difference between the two different can sizes of Real Flame gel fuel?

The Real Flame is offered in a 13 oz and 7 oz cans. The 13 oz. cans are used for all indoor and outdoor fireplaces and the 7 oz. cans are used with the Real Flame personal fireplace line.

What is the average shelf life of Real Flame gel fuel?

Real Flame recommends you use your gel fuel within one year of receiving the product. As this product ages, it slowly starts to turn from a gel to a liquid and while safe to use, does not burn as long as the gel form.

Does Real Flame put off heat or is it strictly for ambience?

Although not recommended as a primary heat source, it does produce about 3000 BTU per hour.
