Types of Ice Makers
Portable / Countertop
Portable Ice makers are perfect for the person on-the-go and with little time to spare. With a portable ice maker you not only can have ice ready in as little as 10 minutes, but you can also produce up to 33 pounds of ice per day (that is equivalent to about 3 bags of ice from the convenient store). Portable ice makers do not require a permanent water line but they do require water to be poured into the unit to produce ice. These units are lightweight and compact, making them perfect for your countertop, home bar, office, boat or RV.
Built-In/ Undercounter Ice Makers
Undercounter ice makers produce several types of ice-- including nugget ice, gourmet ice, flake ice, crescent cubes, half cubes and standard full cubes. These ice maker units provide versatility for usage in homes, businesses, and recreational vehicles. Undercounter ice makers avoid taking up much space yet are still able achieve up to 300 pounds of ice production per day. We offer a variety of undercounter ice makers from brands like EdgeStar, Scotsman, Ice-O-Matic, and U-Line. With such a wide selection, you are sure to find the perfect undercounter ice maker for your home or commercial establishment.
Modular / Ice Maker Head
Modular ice maker heads are typically used to produce ice in much larger quantities than undercounter ice makers and are perfect for restaurants, bars, and hospitals. Modular ice makers require a separate unit for ice collection, which is typically stackable and placed beneath the modular unit. When your ice production requirements surpass 300 pounds per day, modular ice maker heads are the go-to choice for high quantity and dependable ice production. When selecting your modular ice maker head, keep in mind that the condenser can be cooled by either water or air, with most air-cooled units requiring less water and electricity to create ice and therefore qualifying as ENERGY STAR certified.
Self – Contained
Self – contained ice machines both produce and store the ice within the same unit. While they require less physical space than modular units, self-contained ice machines have a lower production rate and storage capacity than most modular ice makers. Self-contained ice machines are the most practical option when space is a determining factor when deciding which machine to choose.
